When I left school, I was unsure about going to University and felt learning a trade would be a good way to make me ready for work with a professional qualification. I decided to apply for electrical installation course.
During my 2-year full-time NVQ, I really enjoyed the practical side to the course. You need to be able to stay on top of things, especially during the second year when the workload gets quite high. For my 3rd year I wanted to go onto the Level 3 and I managed to line up an Apprenticeship with an electrical demolition contractor. I’m getting a lot of experience working on demolition projects in London, and when I complete my final practical exam I’ll be a fully qualified electrician.
My next steps after I qualify are to take an extra qualification which will give me authorisation to sign-off my own and other electricians’ work.
